Starting Aug. 1st Louisiana’s new car seat laws will go into effect.  Louisiana’s main objective is child passenger safety.  The new law has adopted standards set by the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Parents can find more information about the new law and proper installation on the following Facebook pages: Buckle Up Louisiana, and Louisiana State Police Facebook page.

If you are in need of a car seat inspection Troop A in the Baton Rouge region provides such inspections and help with installation every Tuesday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Residents in Acadiana can contact  Troop I in Acadiana. They provide such services every Wednesday from 8 a.m. to noon.

Here is what you need to know:

  • Children under 2 must ride in rear-facing child safety seats.
  • Children ages 4-9 must ride in a booster seat secured with a lap/shoulder belt.
  • Children ages 9-12 can ride without a booster seat if their knees bend over the front edge of the seat, their back is against the seat back and the seat belt crosses their chest and not their neck.
  • Any child under the age of 13 must be in a rear seat when available.

Doran and Cawthorne’s Baton Rouge location will be giving away car seats for their August 23rd Grand Opening. Fill out an entry form below to be entered into the giveaway.
